PATHWAYS TO INNOVATION YOUTH CHALLENGE SERIES 2005
In 2005 Ryebuck Media received a National Innovation Awareness Strategy grant to hold a second series of Youth Challenges for secondary school students on Pathways to Innovation: The Water Challenge. These were held between 16 May and 26 May in seven cities:
- Melbourne 16 May 2005
- Hobart 17 May 2005
- Brisbane 19 May 2005
- Sydney 20 May 2005
- Darwin 23 May 2005
- Perth 25 May 2005
- Adelaide 26 May 2005
The Youth Challenge process involves bringing together selected students from a number of schools in an area to work through a set program.
Ryebuck Media continued with the theme of water sustainability as the focus for exploring the innovation process.
The aim of the program is to increase students' knowledge about and awareness of innovation, through focusing on a topic or theme (water sustainability) that is also an important element in the existing school curriculum. This was validated by the range of teachers who brought students – involving the subject areas of Geography, Science, Studies of Society and Environment, Business Studies, Innovation Studies, and various Leadership / School Council elements.
83 schools and some 800 students registered. 712 people actually attended, and participants submitted 687 evaluations. Schools decided which students they would send. Each school was invited to send between 4 and 12 students, depending on the location of the Challenge and the number of different schools attending.
