The weather was kind and the reception was warm when the National Museum of Australia and Ryebuck Media launched the latest Australian History Mystery – What are the Mysteries of Lake Mungo? at the Lake Mungo Visitors’ Centre on Monday 4 June 2012.
Year 7 students from Chaffey College participated in the program – watching the new DVD virtual tour, collecting evidence from the exhibits in the Centre and visiting the ‘Walls of China’.
Elders and guests from the Ngyiampaa, Mutthi Mutthi and Paakantji peoples attended with representatives from the National Museum of Australia, the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services.
Professor Bowler, discoverer of Mungo Lady and Mungo Man, took the students on a tour of the area explaining how the landscape reveals mysteries over millions of years.
A smoking ceremony, an Indigenous dance and speeches from some of the dignitaries culminated in the launch of this exciting new Australian History Mystery which is available as a discrete product or as part of your subscription to www.AustralianHistoryMysteries.info.
